Ninety Consulting workshop – 4th December 2018

Thoroughly enjoyed working with the Ninety Consulting team today in their innovation workshop “Users not Customers” – we explored the many opportunities to create meaningful user communities to increase engagement, offer value-added services, generate additional revenue streams and generally build trust. Well done to all the participants and great job by Ninety Consulting !

Insurance Innovators Summit 2018

Can’t wait to delve into the world of hashtagInsurTech today and tomorrow ! If you are attending the the Insurance Innovators Summit 2018 in London, come over for a chat hashtag

Great first day at the Insurance Innovators Summit in London. Key points for me: Irene Van Den Brink (InShared in the Netherlands) talking about a fully digital, scaleable platform (allowing them to cut their ER in half), Dr Nina Fichtl (Allianz X) using new technology to focus on the customer not the process, Chris Kaye (Sherpa) illustrating the power of a composite allowing someone to sign up online for most of their insurance needs in just 4.5 mins, Bought by Many sending out Woofins (Muffins for dogs) to create a “fan for life”, Aviva apparently now has a Chief Drone Officer and much more. All nicely topped off by an amazing light show ! Great job by the Market Force team. Bring on day 2 🙂

Intelligent InsureTECH 2018 conference

An excellent day at the Intelligent InsureTECH 2018 conference, rounded off with a panel discussion on “Where can investment in emerging technologies add the most value”.  Key conclusion….start with a very clear definition of the business problem not the latest shiny new tech, tempting this might well be. Great job running the day by Newton Media. Rachael Gore and team, take a bow!

Great time moderating the panel at today’s Intelligent Insuretech Europe 2018 conference….Harnessing advanced analytics to drive top line growth. Big thanks to the excellent panellists.

Really enjoyed chairing the round table on the future of claims – fascinating insights to this changing and critical aspect of insurance. Big thanks to Harriet Parkinson Head of Claims Transformation at Hiscox.  Great Intelligent Insurtech Europe 2018 conference on the 15th October in London.

Impacting the insurance world and beyond…

Living your dreams – how Merlin is helping change not only the insurance world.

2 years ago I dared to be different by launching a brand new consultancy company. The vision for Merlin Digital Consulting Ltd is to bring the latest technology innovations & digital thinking to the critically important insurance industry – for everyone’s benefit.

Having now had the opportunity to travel the world fulfilling this vision, I am now taking the opportunity to enable someone else to travel the world for theirs.

I strongly believe that charities cannot do enough alone and, as Merlin Digital Consulting Ltd has grown, I am determined to leave a positive legacy not only to the Insurance industry but also for good causes and charities that reflect my personal values.

I am very pleased to announce that Merlin is sponsoring Ginnie Odetayo at the Paddleboard World Championships this November. (https://www.facebook.com/ginnieodetayo)

In July Ginnie went to Bournemouth and qualified for the ISA World SUP and Paddleboard World championship as part of the Women’s GB team – being held in China in November 2018.

Ginnie did what she had to do, and wanted to do, dedicating her time to achieve this. Staying focused, moving towards her goal, all the time believing in herself. Ginnie overcame all the obstacles in her way and with commitment and determination, and a lot of hard work, has achieved her ambition.

Merlin Digital Consulting Ltd will be sponsoring Ginnie to help cover the costs of the trip to China.

“Good Luck Ginnie”. You are an inspiration to us all.

Ginnie Odetayo – “Thank you so much Merlin – I would not have gone to the Euros last year without your support – an experience that gave me the confidence to try out for the world’s team. So, so grateful for your support again this year, I promise to take those values you’ve invested in me and make them shine!”

Logical vs emotional

Thoroughly enjoyed being the key note speaker at this morning’s London Market Forum’s Change and Business Transformation Practice Group – focusing on the increasingly crucial people aspects of change within the London Market.

The talk, entitled “Logical vs emotional” covered my hands on experiences of the successes and scars of bringing people with you during transformational change.

Huge thanks to Roger Oldham for organising such a great event, Mark Baptist from OEE Consulting for sponsoring and everyone for a very thought provoking discussion.

Please read Roger’s testimonial –

“David Clamp’s knowledge of the insurance sector and in particular his experience in the technology and operations arena is clear to see from my one-to-one conversations with him and from his passion and drive to make a difference in the workplace. David has kindly addressed professionals and executives at two LMForums events during 2018 and has been willing to share his real-time experiences of driving change within the insurance market; a great orator and well connected industry professional”.

Wow ! not how…

Last December, David Clamp and his 18-year-old son were shopping for Christmas trees. Deep in the festive season, it was a perfect father-son moment and David decided to show the teenager the safe way to strap a Christmas tree onto his car roof.

“One day,” he said. “You’ll have your own car and you’ll need to do this.”

The young man in the back seat looked bemused.   Continue reading “Wow ! not how…”

IoT and Insurers. Threat or Opportunity?

I recently attended Connect Media Consulting’s European Digital Insurance Summit in Berkshire, and fascinating it was too (http://www.connectmediaconsulting.com/event)

To kick off, and to get people thinking, I lead one of the ‘Think Tank Challenge’ sessions. Mine focused on the evolution of IoT to enable new services within the insurance space:

With IOT devices becoming more and more functionally rich, easier to install and connect to wifi/internet and also becoming cheaper and cheaper by the day, what new products and services will this enable for insurance companies ?

Here is a summary of our collective findings from the group of experienced industry CXOs and digital innovators:   Continue reading “IoT and Insurers. Threat or Opportunity?”
